    The Effect of Migration on Urbanization of Turkey, Case of Diyarbakir

    The study will be deal with migration, which is a very important phenomenon in urbanization process and mostly has negative effects and brings lots of problems to urban life. Migration could be describe as a movement that contains demand for a better life, i.e. demand for housing, demand for job, demand for school, etc… This demand, however, puts out of order urban life and disintegrates the urban system. In Turkey, especially after 1950ies, there is migration and sometimes this migration has been containing very big numbers in terms of population. Besides, after 1990ies, Southeastern Anatolia Region of Turkey has given out migration, especially via the city of Diyarbakir. The migration, from the city and the region to west side of Turkey, like Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, used Diyarbakir as a stopover. In addition of being a stopover point, Diyarbakir not only gives out migration but also get in migration. Thus makes Diyarbakir a city that has no history in social life and in urban culture. Shortly, The study will try to question migration and its effects to Turkey’s urbanization process in Diyarbakir case.

    Examine of the Facts of Women and Migration During the Urbanization in the Scale of South-eastern Anatolia Region (Gap), in Turkey

    Since the beginning of 1950’s the migration of population from countryside to cities constitutes a subject as an important part of demographic changing on its own. Since the second half of 1970’s, especially domestic migration from the small and medium size cities to big cities, by turning into family migration became dense in the three big metropolises in west. (Ãstanbul, Ankara, Ãzmir). In 1990’s both the migration from east and Southeast Anatolia to other regions and the obligatory migration inside the region have been added to elements which effect movement of population. While this changing, which occurs in the dynamics of domestic migration during the time, does not exist in most of present researches, one of the other absence is social sex viewpoint. In the studies about migration, the lack of social sex viewpoint is not peculiar only to Turkey but also it seems limited in international literature. Present studies show there are important differences between women and men in the point of migration causes, participation to migration process, experiences during this process and effects of migration, attitudes and reactions of immigrants. In the core of these differences there are, collaboration inside the family between woman and man and parallel to this, social roles of woman and man, which described by customs and traditions. Women’ life relating to migration is generally closely related to their situations in family as a wife, a mother or a young girl about to marry. The relations between them and both the places they left and they just came is formed in this base. Consequently, in a migration process, which includes a social and place changing, identity of sex has an important role as much as socio-economic class, culture, ethnic or national identity. G.A.P. Region which is in the Southeast of our developing country has a village-city appearance by the effects of both many side social, physiological, economic and urban destruction which created by terror and fight and generally the feudal structure in the region, extreme poverty, lack of top and underground structure and the political and economic choices which does not mind about neighborhood values.     Mass Housing and Changings in Housing Demand, Case of Diyarbakir, Turkey

    The aim of this study is to analyze changings in housing demand, especially in term of house size in Diyarbakýr case, in Turkey. Though Housing in Turkey is in a free market system, there is a Mass Housing Administration (TOKÝ) has been doing mass houses for, relatively, middle class income people. Diyarbakýr, one of the cities that TOKÝ has done two thousand houses, has taken too much migration, so that the demand in housing form and structure has different alterations. This process should be under control not only for the economy but also for sustainable housing environment and for sustainable urbanism. Immigration from rural areas to cities for better living conditions has started with urbanization and resulted with overpopulation in the cities of Turkey. Mass housing fact is formed in order to satisfy shortage of housing. The quantity as well as the quality of housing has reached seriously to a high degree. There are many slums in Diyarbakýr which has density of wraped urbanization. Since 1994, Mass Houing Management has started new projects to prevent such an unhealthy settlement being consructed and to supply more houses for the homeless Iiving in the town. In this work, inhabitants in different settlements wiil be questioned to identify their economic, social and spatial needs comparing with mass housing. Besides, comparison between the people’s preferences on housing those don’t live never in mass housing and the people’s desire alterations those live in mass housing by investigation of their settlement process will be done. The level of coorelation between the function and house size will be examined for decreasing the housing ownership process and cost. The proposals about sustainable housing environment will be given. Such research is considered to be helpful for future house planing in Turkey’s cities like Diyarbakýr.

    Gate induced monolayer behavior in twisted bilayer black phosphorus

    Optical and electronic properties of black phosphorus strongly depend on the number of layers and type of stacking. Using first-principles calculations within the framework of density functional theory, we investigate the electronic properties of bilayer black phosphorus with an interlayer twist angle of 90^\circ. These calculations are complemented with a simple kp\vec{k}\cdot\vec{p} model which is able to capture most of the low energy features and is valid for arbitrary twist angles. The electronic spectrum of 90^\circ twisted bilayer black phosphorus is found to be x-y isotropic in contrast to the monolayer. However x-y anisotropy, and a partial return to monolayer-like behavior, particularly in the valence band, can be induced by an external out-of-plane electric field. Moreover, the preferred hole effective mass can be rotated by 90^\circ simply by changing the direction of the applied electric field. In particular, a +0.4 (-0.4) V/{\AA} out-of-plane electric field results in a \sim60\% increase in the hole effective mass along the y (x) axis and enhances the my/mxm^*_{y}/m^*_{x} (mx/mym^*_{x}/m^*_{y}) ratio as much as by a factor of 40. Our DFT and kp\vec{k}\cdot\vec{p} simulations clearly indicate that the twist angle in combination with an appropriate gate voltage is a novel way to tune the electronic and optical properties of bilayer phosphorus and it gives us a new degree of freedom to engineer the properties of black phosphorus based devices.Comment: 8 pages, 8 figure

    Effect of addition of live yeast culture on fattening performance on some blood and rumen fluid parameters in male kids fed with sucrose supplemented concentrate

    The aim of this study were to evaluate the effects of live yeast culture (LYC) as a feed additive on fattening performance, some blood and rumen fluid parameters in male goats fed with sucrose (S) supplemented concentrate. Totally 18 male Saanen goat kids were divided into three groups, no S and LYC (S(-)) as control, 3 % S (S(+)) and 3 % S plus LYC group (S+LYC), each containing 6 kids. Concentrates of groups were formulated as isonitrogenic and isocaloric. LYC (Rumisacc®, Integro Food Industry and Trade Co., İstanbul, Turkey (containing live yeast cell 344 x 1010 cfu per gram) was included in the concentrate at 2% as feed basis. Feeding schedule was established with only concentrate, feed was given ad libitum and roughage was not given. Addition of LYC plus S to concentrate increased ruminal ammonia-N and decreased ruminal pH compeared with sucrose unsupplemented control group.     Cochlear implant (CI) is a surgically implanted electronic device that provides a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf. CI represents the current treatment for patients affected by profound sensorineu- ral hearing loss (SNHL). At first times, only deaf adults were considered to be candidates for a CI; however, with the development of technology and gained experience by pshycians, indications for cochlear implan- tation have been expanded. Today, CIs are implanted also in children and broader indications are followed. There are, however, a number of patients who are potential candidates for CI but do not completely fulfill the current indications. Residual hearing and duration of deafness represent prognostic indicators for CI per- formance; however, prelingually deafened adults and children with residual hearing are still point at issue. Anatomical variations such as cochlear malformation, ossification and chronic otitis media still represent a contraindication to CI for some surgeons. Although the technology for cochlear implant surgery is advanc- ing everyday, there may be several complications related to the device or operation and some of them can be healed only with medical therapy but some are serious enough to process to reimplantation.     Volume changes during active shape fluctuations in cells

    Cells modify their volume in response to changes in osmotic pressure but it is usually assumed that other active shape variations do not involve significant volume fluctuations. Here we report experiments demonstrating that water transport in and out of the cell is needed for the formation of blebs, commonly observed protrusions in the plasma membrane driven by cortex contraction. We develop and simulate a model of fluid mediated membrane-cortex deformations and show that a permeable membrane is necessary for bleb formation which is otherwise impaired. Taken together our experimental and theoretical results emphasize the subtle balance between hydrodynamics and elasticity in actively driven cell morphological changes.Comment: Phys. Rev.     Extraction of Saponins from Soapnut (Sapindus Mukorossi) and Their Antimicrobial Properties

    In this study optimization of extraction conditions for saponin from Sapindus mukorossi was investigated. Results showed that polarity of the extraction solvent affects the yield percentage of the extraction process. Best yield percentage was obtained as 78.1 % at 1:10 solid-liquid ratio in aqueous ethanol solution (50% v/v). The antimicrobial properties of extracts containing saponins were investigated for different microorganisms. Minimum inhibition concentrations of extract were obtained against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans. Minimum inhibition concentrations (MIC) of saponin extract ranged between 12.5 mg/mL to 25 mg/mL.nbs
